Our History
Vision built by the Community
While hockey was played recreationally in New Prague beginning as early as the 1920s, the first Trojan high school team was fielded in 1979. However, its home rink was in LeSueur- 20 miles away. That meant many early mornings and late nights for participants. Figure skaters traveled all around the South Metro and had no single home. That placed a strain on participants—especially youth programs.
By the early1990s, because of an increasing limitation on available ice times out of town, the need for local ice reached a critical juncture. Driven by a shared commitment to our youth and local athletes, a group of dedicated volunteers formed a Task Force in early 1995 to turn the dream of a multi-purpose facility into a reality.
More Than Just an Arena
For over three decades, we have operated as a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the youth in our community. We provide a premier home for:
- New Prague High School (NPHS) Boys and Girls Hockey
- New Prague Hockey Association (NPHA)
- New Prague Figure Skating Club (NPFSC)
We also host recreational adult leagues, learn to skate programs, and recreational skating, and also provide a home for summer ice programming and camps. Beyond the ice, our facility has served as a versatile venue for trade shows, birthday parties, school classes, local gatherings, and regional tournaments.
